Iam at my wits end to identify and remove a virus or malware on my pc, all help will be apreciated.
Iam running XP Home with SP3 applied and have macfee total protection installed.

Symptoms.

1) Mcafee Securitycenter starts and the icon is available in the taskbar.
Clicking on th icon, it opens "flashes" then closes immediately.
Cannot uninstall mcafee
2) In Internet explorer, if I go to www.mcafee.com explorer closes.
if I search for mcafee, antivirus, etc.. in google explorer closes
otherwise IE and google work fine.
3) If I run (or try to run) any of the following tools they start and close immediately
a) Hijackthis
 Rootkitrevealer
c) Process Explorer

What I have done.

1) Create a standalone (boot scan) Kaspersky - Runs till 78% complete then hangs.(Build 20080611)
2) Run TRENDMICRO housecall - nothing found
3) Tried to run the utilities listed in symptoms above
4) Placed this "cry for help" on various sites
5) Removed all Internet Explorer add-in's
6) Renamed Hijackthis to ABC.exe

Thanks in advance

4) Placed this "cry for help" on various sites

Only use the guidance from one site as we all help out on each others sites and you may be asked to do some thing here  and some one will ask you to d osome thing on another site so before you start the best thing is to only use the one.
if you have been advised by another site then please let us know in this topic and we will close it .
however if you still need any help then may I seguest you try this :
Download [span style=\'color:blue\']Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware[/span] to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Please post contents of that file in your next reply and can you do a new a HijackThis log.
