Hey,

I am writing to ask 2 minutes of your time. I am currently in the process of setting up a pc security website and would like your help. I have an anonymous survey setup which asks three questions which will help me put together an idea of what people would like to see. Could you please take two minutes to tick which subjects you are interested in? There is also a free prize draw if you are interested.

The survey is at: http://www.askitonline.com/survey/pc-security-blog/

Thanks

Hi, sur2009.

My suggestion at WinVistaClub was not intended that you post your survey at various security forums but rather that you visit those sites to observe the type of help provided.

I will repeat the message I provided at WVC, which is unless properly trained, do not attempt malware removal.  If you are serious in this endeavor, I strongly advise that you undertake training.  There are a number of excellent free training sites available.  Considering that some of the finest minds in the industry are analyzing the likes of Conficker, that hardly seems an appropriate venue for a start-up security forum.  Following completion of training and after obtaining further experience, there are other venues available to talented members of the community.

The sites below come to mind as having training available, although there may be a waiting list and an application must be submitted and each applicant is vetted:

Just what the world needs...another wannabe sec site to add to the hundreds of incompetent sources already online. You know the kind I mean...the ones who simply repeat the same old propaganda, techniques, and solutions that have been outdated and obsolete for most of a decade now. The way I see it, this is just as much a trend within a large majority of the ASAP sites too.

Am I being rude by saying 'incompetent'? Well, would anyone with even an ounce of awareness need to make posts such as this one?

You know, I really find it sad to see that in the greater part of the last decade, there has literally been hardly any evolution in the foundation of the pri/sec community.

I'm retired and certainly not going to start a new campaign now. However, malware propagators and data-miners are getting more sophisticated every day. It would sure be nice to see this organization doing more to teach real security techniques to users instead of just telling them that they should use x,y,or z anti-malware scanners. There is no security in that.

Sorry, this post just caused the words to come out.

Hi Mike, honest and truly spoken.
Your comment will hurt some people, but in the sense of efficiency which ASAP claims, you spoke - in my opinion - with open heart and something which should have been said a long time ago.
